children of suicide

she’s wrapped up in him like a blanket, her breath is like rain and it’s soaking up the sand and the waves are violent but he likes it and wishes they would smother him, wishes he could take another pill and have those great big hands pull at him, take the sand from their toes and then wash him away with her because she’s holding him so tightly and the water is so cold and the waves are screaming so she wouldn’t know until she woke up that he still had her, that she couldn’t run away again, but she just wants another drink and he just wants another kiss so they get up again and he follows her, he steps through the sand and turns to watch the sparks they left behind as they snap and fizzle and fade away and he knows that he would do anything for her and he knows that she just wants another drink and he sees the pain of his mother in her eyes and he just wants to hold her tight before she disappears the way that she did.
